How to install an AI-generated Fabric mod in Minecraft Java
Install an MC Mod Maker JAR in a Minecraft Java 1.21.1 Fabric profile, add Fabric API, find the creation and troubleshoot version or loading errors.
An MC Mod Maker Java creation is installed as a Fabric mod JAR. Use Minecraft Java 1.21.1, Java 21, Fabric Loader 0.16.10 or a compatible newer loader, and Fabric API for Minecraft 1.21.1. A .bbmodel, PNG or source ZIP is for editing or inspection; it is not the file to install in the game's mods folder.
This guide describes the installation workflow for the exported files. A successful build and browser preview do not establish that every generated behavior works on your computer or in a modpack. Test a new creation in a separate world before using it in an important save.
1. Get the built JAR
In the creation studio, sign in, open your saved result and choose Download .jar once the game file is ready. Keep its saved revision so that an error report can identify the exact creation. Available model and source downloads may still work when a game-file build fails; those files cannot substitute for a completed JAR.
For a published sample, use the JAR on the Emberforge Surveyor or Copperwing Pathfinder case page. Their public downloads do not require an account.
2. Create a matching Fabric profile
Choose Minecraft 1.21.1, even if your launcher offers a newer game release. Use the official Fabric installer and 1.21.1 installation guide. Close the game and launcher before installing, select the client and matching game version, and create the launcher profile. Third-party launchers have their own profile instructions.
The game's runtime must use Java 21. Minecraft introduced this requirement in its official 1.20.5 release notes. A separate system Java installation may not be needed when the launcher supplies the correct runtime; check the selected profile rather than assuming the terminal's Java version is the game's version.
3. Add Fabric API and the creation
Download Fabric API for 1.21.1 from the project linked in Fabric's official mod installation guide. MC Mod Maker's current build target uses Fabric API 0.116.5+1.21.1. Fabric Loader and Fabric API are separate components: installing the loader alone does not supply the API.
Put the Fabric API JAR and your creation JAR into the selected profile's mods directory. If it has a custom game directory, use that directory. For the official launcher's default directory, Fabric documents these locations:
| Operating system | Default mods directory |
|---|---|
| Windows | %appdata%\.minecraft\mods |
| macOS | ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods |
| Linux | ~/.minecraft/mods |
Leave JARs intact; do not extract them. Keep one installed version of a creation, and replace the old JAR when testing a revised file. Do not install a source ZIP, .bbmodel or -sources.jar as the mod.
4. Find the creation in a test world
Launch the Fabric 1.21.1 profile and create a separate Creative world. Find your block or item in the inventory, or look for a mob's spawn egg in Spawn Eggs.
The two published complex samples have these registered egg IDs. With commands enabled, use the command for the JAR you installed:
/give @s emberforge_surveyor:emberforge_surveyor_spawn_egg
/give @s copperwing_pathfinder:copperwing_pathfinder_spawn_egg
Use the egg on open ground. For a different creation, use its own registered identifier from the source archive; changing the display name in the command does not discover an identifier.
Check the visible model and requested behavior separately. For example, compare a mob's body and weapon with its browser preview, then test movement, retaliation and damage in the game. Record what actually happens, including behavior that differs from the request.
5. Troubleshoot the exact error
| What happens | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Fabric reports a missing dependency | Fabric API is installed, and both game and API target 1.21.1. |
| The game version is rejected | Launch the Fabric 1.21.1 profile rather than another game version or loader. |
| The mod is absent or its egg ID is unknown | The built JAR is in the active profile's mods directory; restart the game after adding it. |
| Duplicate mod or item registration error | Remove an older copy of the same creation before retrying. |
| A crash or a behavior mismatch remains | Reproduce in a separate profile with just Fabric API and the creation, then retain the log. |
The game's logs/latest.log and crash-reports directory can explain failures. Follow Fabric's log guide and crash-report guide. Contact MC Mod Maker support with the saved creation version, exact game and loader versions, and relevant error. Review logs for personal paths or account details before sharing them publicly.
Each case page states what has been checked for that example. See the download guide for all export formats, or create your own custom mob to start a new project.
